Olga Kotova was born and raised in Russia, where she extensively studied painting and drawing. She has displayed an active interest in the visual arts since childhood, and chose to pursue it in an art school. There, she aquired the skills needed to express her visions, which she continued to develop during her post-secondary education. Visual arts have always been a vital part of her life.

Olga moved to Canada in 2000. She works in her Toronto-based studio. She describes herself as a dedicated artist with an interest in varied media. Olga's preferred subject matter is landscape, though she enjoys working with still life and portraits as well. She has an intuitive sense of colour and composition. Her paintings carry a great deal of energy, displaying an intricate textural quality, and subtle effects of light. At the moment, Olga is most fascinated by the process of applying acrylic to canvas, gradually building layer upon layer.

In Olga's own words, "For my current series, inspired by landscape in Ontario, I chose the acrylics. I find that it is a medium that suits my visual ideas and my perception of the world particularly well. I like to express the essence of the land during different seasons and times of the day. I focus the attention on the unique light and the mood of the moment rather than depict a specific location. When I draw portraits, my works on paper are figurative and often humorous. For still lives, I prefer to use pastels. It helps me to express the beauty of the multitude of forms."
